Santa Maria is glass, carved from the front, with poured resins, gold leaf and mixed media. The artist has had a special affinity for “Mother Mary” and often has felt her loving presence and guidance. Santa Maria is a symbol of Love. The natural colored veil represents her modest life, and the bejeweled, feathered headdress depicts her appointed status as the Sacred Mother of all. Her airbrushed skin remarkably changed color several times throughout the making of this piece. The artist believes her darker skin connects her to all women from around the world, regardless of race or origin. Santa Maria welcomes all who come to her.
