Size: 25 ¾” x 48”
The spirit of the sacred Mother shines, humble in raiment and gentle in demeanor, yet possessing priceless jewels, glowing from within. Mother Mary, or Santa Maria in most Romance languages, is revered the world over and has a very special place in the heart of the artist. “She is with me, always”, says Shannon, “and has guided both my life and my hands.” Carved, bas relief style, into a glass panel, gold leaf, paint, resins, and other effects were then applied to create the image you see here. Some elements are opaque, and some translucent, which gives sparkle and movement to the piece, constantly changing with the light of the day.
Mother Mary was also re-created as an assemblage, which now resides in the home of a private collector. This idea of combining giclee prints and carved glass gave birth to a series of works that include many of the original creations seen in the gallery, including The Mermaid Ibiza, Cape Verde: Mermaid Mother and Child, Sisters, Firefly, Catherine, Mother Mary, Rhiannon, and Lovers.
