MEET shannon castle
Shannon Castle has always embraced bold creativity, fearlessly transforming her visions into groundbreaking glass art. As a self-taught master glass carver in a field where trade secrets are closely guarded, she has forged her own path, constantly innovating with techniques and materials that push the boundaries of the medium.
Her artistic journey began in childhood, sketching intricate worlds inspired by fairy tales, revealing an innate talent far beyond her years. Drawn to the luminous, dimensional qualities of glass, she envisioned her work coming to life through depth, light, and vibrant color.
At just 19, she founded Shannon Studios in Sausalito, California, specializing in architectural glass installations across the West Coast. Over the decades, her work evolved beyond commissions, allowing her artistic vision to flourish without limitations.
Today, from her studio in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Shannon continues to create mesmerizing glass art, blending craftsmanship and imagination into every piece.
Creative Process
In her creative process, the end goal is always the realization of the artist’s creative visions; glimpses of a reality just beyond our perception. The translucent nature of glass is her essential key to realizing these visions in a medium that plays with light, moving and changing, with different elements and moods revealing themselves throughout the day and night.
This artistic quest leads Shannon Castle on an endless and fearless journey of innovation, seeking out tools, and processes that transcend traditional artistic technique. There are no rules. And there certainly is no “school”. There is only her dedication to revealing the truth of her visions in each creation.
The process of creating three dimensional forms in panels ofannealed glass is the most dramatic, and frankly dangerousaspect of the artist’s creative endeavor, requiring a grasp ofintimidating industrial techniques and equipment that must allwork together in an incredibly dangerous environment.Immersed in a cloud of silica dust, Shannon patiently cuts, blasts, and reveals the three dimensional shapes and finedetails of her preliminary drawings, which are works of art intheir own right.
